Rehearsal tracks

The icons link to MP3 files which you can play or save. (To save, try right-clicking on an icon and selecting "Save Target As" or similar from the menu.) Each track includes all the voices, but with the appropriate part emphasised. There are no dynamics and hardly any tempo changes! The tracks are necessarily compressed quite heavily to save web server space and download time.

A note about how this is produced, using entirely open-source software, obtainable, quite legally, for free. The scores are entered graphically using NoteEdit. From this, Lilypond is used to produce high quality PDF printouts for the singers. The music is also exported from NoteEdit as MIDI "synthesiser instructions", and converted to audio files with the software synthesiser TiMidity. Practice CDs can then be made using K3b. The audio files are also compressed to MP3 format using Lame, for uploading to the web using sftp. The icons for the links (PNG format, which display properly in standards-compliant browsers such as Firefox) were drawn with KIconEdit, and the logo with Gimp.

And of course, all this software is on a PC running the GNU/Linux operating system, in the shape of the Kubuntu distribution. This page has been sent to you using the Apache web server, also running in Linux, and hosted by the UK Free Software Network.
